MILLENNIUM III
ACUPUNCTURE

Principle Based Medicine Across From Millennium Park

Welcome to Millennium III Acupuncture

Sticking needles into your skin might not sound like a good way to feel better. But that’s exactly how acupuncture works. In fact, the traditional Chinese practice has been used for centuries to treat all sorts of health conditions — and it’s still very common.

Millennium III Acupuncture, named so for nearly three millennia of traditional Chinese medicine,  is the clinic of the Chicago College of Oriental Medicine and is located in downtown Chicago. Our student interns aim is to keep people healthy with acupuncture treatments, herbal medicine, tui na (acupressure), cupping, gua sha, and food therapy.

Acupuncture can help treat many types of health issues.  Most often people use it to relieve chronic (long-term) issues, such as elevated blood sugar, high blood pressure, insomnia, asthma, allergies and pain. These conditions weaken the immune system making you more susceptible to infectious diseases. Strengthening the immune system allows you to feel better, have less pain, and increase your chances of preventing and surviving diseases like COVID-19 and other contagious diseases.

Acupuncture for Pain

PAIN IS JUST A SIGNAL….…that something is wrong.

Don’t get fooled into dulling the senses with painkillers or local numbing injections. That’s like taking batteries out of the smoke detector. Acupuncture has been increasingly used as an integrative or complementary therapy for pain. It is well-tolerated with little risk of serious adverse effects. In an update of patient data meta-analysis published in the May edition of the Journal of Pain, researchers with the Acupuncture Trialists’ Collaboration concluded that acupuncture is effective for the treatment of chronic pain, that the effects of acupuncture persist over time, and that the benefits of acupuncture cannot be explained away solely by the placebo effect.

Gua sha is rooted in traditional Chinese medicine. Practitioners of this medicine believe that a person’s qi, or energy, must flow unhindered throughout the body so you can feel your best. When qi becomes stagnant, health problems occur. With Gua sha, your acupuncturist uses a smooth-edged tool to gently scrape areas of your body where inflammation or stagnant qi
